At a time of increased need and proposed spending on infrastructure projects, especially in the United States, Tinius Olsen has launched a major expansion of its line of materials testers developed specifically for civil engineering applications. According to C. Robert Tait III, President of Tinius Olsen, “We are already well represented at various state departments of transportation nationwide. These new products will give the engineers and technical teams in charge of quality and safety, many additional test system choices.”
The expanded civil engineering product family from Tinius Olsen now includes materials testers and software for evaluating: concrete; asphalt quality control; cements, plaster, and mortar; and sand, aggregate, and fillers. All its products are designed for specific applications and conform to their relevant ASTM, BS, AASHTO and other internationally recognized standards. The newest models include test equipment for classification and strength properties of cement, concrete, and building materials, as well as for petroleum products, asphalt bitumen, tar and paint, surface flexure, and irregularity of roads.
In support of the product expansion, Tinius Olsen has produced a 60-page catalog downloadable from www.TiniusOlsen.com. It has also launched a new expert forum site, www.testingconcrete.com, on which visitors can get answers to their technical questions from Dr. V.M. Sharma, formerly Director of the Central Soil and Materials Research Station of the Ministry of Water Resources, of the Government of India. Dr. Sharma has also served as a consultant and geotechnical expert to the Asian Development Bank on a variety of international projects, including the Phuoc Hoa Multipurpose Water Resources Project in Vietnam, and the Jamuna-Meghna Flood Erosion Mitigation Project in Bangladesh. Tinius Olsen launched their expanded line of civil engineering testers at the World of Concrete Show earlier in February this year and was extremely pleased with the reception we had from show visitors. This was the first time the company had exhibited at the show, and on display was the model 317E-DG which is an open loop compression testing machine with a maximum loading capacity of 440,000 lbf, or 2,000kN; there are eight frames in this DG series with increasing frame capacity sizes, starting at a maximum capacity of 11,000lbf, or 50kN, and finishing at 660,000 lbf, or 3,000kN. The DG series is designed as a low cost entry into the market, and based on feedback from the World Of Concrete show, it appears as though they offer the best value available in the marketplace. In addition to the DG series, Tinius Olsen also offers a closed loop series, the MU series, and a fully automatic, software controlled, series, the FA series to complete the family of concrete crushers. All of these machines can be linked to a flexure test frame and / or a dedicated prism testing frame, so that the same pumping unit and controller can operate either test frame, reducing the need for extra equipment. Of course, the compression testing machines alone would not satisfy the market needs, so Tinius Olsen also carries a complete series of molds, shakes, vibration tables, sieves, core samplers, compactors, slump cones and other test and sample preparation equipment so that customers only need to come to one place for all their testing needs.
What really sets Tinius Olsen apart from everyone else, in the USA, is their service and support. Tinius Olsen has its own calibration and service network of 26 field technicians in the US who are A2LA certified. They, in turn, are supported by an in-house technical support team and a team of co-ordinators who schedule their time and customer’s need in the most efficient way possible. Every visitor to the booth at World Of Concrete recognized the significance and importance of the A2LA support capabilities, and our UKAS accreditation at our UK plant, the scope of which can be found by clicking on the A2LA logo on our website’s homepage.
